Channel Test Pulse Cross-Talk Error

ABB · AC500

What does 13 mean?

This error suggests that a test pulse intended for one channel is being incorrectly detected on another, or vice-versa, indicating signal interference between channels. This can be caused by faulty wiring or internal issues within the I/O module, leading to unreliable input detection.

Common Causes

  • Faulty or damaged insulation between adjacent input wires within the same cable run.
  • Inadequate shielding or improper grounding of input signal cables, leading to capacitive or inductive coupling.
  • Internal defect within the safety I/O module causing unintended signal routing or detection between channels.
  • Close proximity of unshielded input wiring to high-current or high-frequency power cables.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. De-energize the input circuit and perform insulation resistance tests between adjacent input terminals (e.g., X1 and X2).

  2. 2

    2. Visually inspect the cable bundles for the affected input channels for any signs of insulation damage.

  3. 3

    3. Ensure that all signal cables are properly shielded and that the shield is correctly terminated at both ends (if applicable).

  4. 4

    4. Temporarily disconnect one of the affected input channels and observe if the cross-talk error on the other channel clears.

  5. 5

    5. If wiring and external factors are ruled out, replace the safety I/O module to address a potential internal fault.
