Safety Source Addresses Cannot Be Checked

ABB · AC500

What does 17 mean?

The PROFIsafe F-Host library, responsible for managing safety communication, is unable to verify the safety source addresses of connected devices. This typically indicates an outdated or incompatible F-Host library version, which compromises the system's ability to validate the authenticity and integrity of safety messages. Consequently, safety communication cannot be reliably established.

Common Causes

  • Mismatched PROFIsafe F_Source_Add parameters between the F-Host (safety PLC) configuration and the connected F-Device.
  • Outdated or incompatible PROFIsafe F-Host library or F-Device firmware requiring an update.
  • Incorrect addressing scheme used, such as duplicate F_Source_Add values assigned to multiple F-Devices.
  • Corrupted configuration data in the safety PLC's project or on the F-Device itself preventing correct source address identification.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify that the F_Source_Add parameter configured in the safety PLC's project for each F-Device matches the actual F_Source_Add assigned to the physical device.

  2. 2

Check for duplicate F_Source_Add values across all PROFIsafe devices connected to the F-Host, ensuring each device has a unique address.

  3. 3

Ensure the F-Host library and F-Device firmware versions are compatible by referencing the manufacturer's compatibility matrix.

  4. 4

Perform an online comparison between the safety PLC's project configuration and the actual configuration on the F-Devices to identify discrepancies.

  5. 5

Re-download the entire safety PLC project, including the F-Host library and F-Device configurations, to ensure consistency.

  6. 6

If the issue persists, consider updating the F-Host library in the engineering software to the latest compatible version.
