CRC1-Fault

ABB · AC500

What does 19 mean?

A Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC1) fault has been detected in PROFIsafe communication, indicating data corruption during transmission between safety components. This means safety messages are not being received reliably, which could lead to incorrect safety decisions or commands. The integrity of safety-critical data is compromised.

Common Causes

  • Excessive electromagnetic interference (EMI) on the PROFIsafe communication line due to unshielded cables running parallel to high-power conductors.
  • Physical damage to the PROFIsafe Ethernet cable (e.g., broken conductors, poor termination at RJ45 connectors) leading to intermittent packet loss.
  • Faulty PROFIsafe F-Proxy or F-Device hardware causing incorrect CRC calculation before transmission.
  • Network congestion or insufficient bandwidth on the PROFINET network, particularly in shared segments with high data traffic.
  • Incorrect PROFINET device configuration, such as mismatched PROFINET device names or IP addresses between the engineering software and the physical device.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Inspect the PROFIsafe Ethernet cable for physical damage, proper shielding connection, and correct termination at both the F-Host (PLC) and F-Device ends.

  2. 2

Measure the PROFINET communication quality (e.g., using a network analyzer for frame loss, jitter) to identify intermittent issues or excessive collisions.

  3. 3

Verify the PROFINET device name and IP address of the F-Device in the engineering software (e.g., TIA Portal online diagnostics) matches the physical device's settings.

  4. 4

Check for potential EMI sources (e.g., large motor drives, welding equipment) operating near the PROFIsafe communication cables and ensure proper cable routing and grounding.

  5. 5

Isolate the F-Device by connecting it directly to the F-Host (PLC) with a known good, shielded cable to rule out network infrastructure issues.

  6. 6

Replace the suspected faulty F-Device module if the fault persists after verifying cabling and network environment.
