Measurement Overflow

ABB · AC500

What does 260 mean?

This error occurs when the measured signal value on an analog input channel exceeds the maximum range the I/O module can process. This often points to an incorrectly scaled sensor, an over-range input signal, or an issue with the sensor's power supply, leading to inaccurate measurements.

Common Causes

  • The connected analog sensor is providing an output signal (e.g., 22mA, 11V) that exceeds the module's maximum input range (e.g., 20mA, 10V).
  • Incorrect scaling parameter (e.g., P3-01 'Max Analog Input Value') configured in the I/O module's settings.
  • Damage to the sensor itself, causing it to output an artificially high signal (e.g., short circuit within sensor).
  • Wiring error where the analog input channel is inadvertently connected to a higher voltage source than intended.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Disconnect the sensor and measure the actual analog signal (e.g., current or voltage) at the sensor's output terminals.

  2. 2

    2. Using a multimeter, measure the voltage or current at the analog input terminal block of the I/O module.

  3. 3

    3. Verify that the configured input range parameter (e.g., P3-01 or scaling limits) in the I/O module matches the sensor's output range.

  4. 4

    4. Inspect the sensor for physical damage or signs of malfunction, such as internal shorts.

  5. 5

    5. Ensure the input wiring is routed correctly and not inadvertently connected to an auxiliary supply voltage.
