STO hardware fault

ABB · Application Error ABB Motion Drives Error trouble shoo

What does 10034 mean?

One or both of the internal fault circuit outputs within the drive (MotiFlex e100, MotiFlex e180, MicroFlex e190) have been asserted, indicating an internal hardware fault in the Safe Torque Off (STO) circuits. This error can occur regardless of whether the drive is enabled or disabled.

Common Causes

  • An internal hardware failure within the drive's STO safety circuit.
  • Electrical interference, transient overvoltage, or surge affecting the internal STO monitoring circuits.
  • Degradation or failure of internal components within the drive's safety electronics.
  • Seldom, but external wiring faults (short circuits, ground faults) could propagate and affect internal STO monitoring circuits.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Perform a complete power cycle of the drive (turn off power, wait for capacitors to discharge, then reapply power) to clear any temporary internal fault conditions.

  2. 2

Verify that external wiring to the STO inputs is correct and free from short circuits or ground faults, as these could potentially affect internal STO monitoring.

  3. 3

If the error persists after power cycling and thorough external wiring inspection, it strongly indicates an internal hardware fault. Contact ABB technical support for diagnosis and potential drive replacement.

  4. 4

Do not attempt to bypass or repair internal safety circuits yourself.
