I/O Bus Master Parameter Setting Error

ABB · System

What does E2-17 mean?

An error occurred while attempting to set a parameter for the I/O bus master. This indicates a problem with configuring the communication master, potentially preventing it from correctly initiating or controlling connected I/O devices. This can lead to a complete loss of I/O communication.

Common Causes

  • Attempting to set an invalid or out-of-range value for an I/O bus master parameter (e.g., P3-01 Baud Rate).
  • GSD file (General Station Description) for the I/O bus master is corrupted or incorrect.
  • Communication conflict with another device on the same bus trying to write parameters.
  • Firmware bug in the I/O bus master preventing proper parameter handling.
  • Hardware fault in the non-volatile memory storing master configuration parameters.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Review the I/O bus master's configuration parameters (e.g., Profinet name, IP address) in the engineering software for correctness.

  2. 2

    2. Download the I/O bus master's configuration (e.g., via TIA Portal) to ensure parameter integrity.

  3. 3

    3. Perform a factory reset of the I/O bus master module.

  4. 4

    4. Verify the device master file (e.g., GSDML for Profinet) for the I/O bus master is current and valid.

  5. 5

    5. Check the 24VDC power supply stability for the I/O bus master module at its terminals.
