I/O Module Test Pulse Cross-Talk Error

What does E3-13 mean?

A test pulse cross-talk error has occurred on an I/O bus module channel. This suggests unwanted interference between adjacent channels or an issue where a test pulse is being incorrectly detected on another channel. This can lead to unreliable I/O operation, incorrect data, and system instability.

Common Causes

  • Damaged internal traces or component failure within the I/O module leading to signal bleed-over between channels.
  • High frequency noise or EMI from unshielded power cables routed too close to I/O wiring, inducing cross-talk.
  • Grounding issue on the I/O module or backplane, causing current loops that manifest as signal interference.
  • Incorrect channel configuration parameter (e.g., P12-CH_ISOLATION) allowing insufficient separation.
  • Manufacturing defect in the I/O module's PCB layout affecting signal integrity between adjacent channels.
