F-Parameter Configuration Mismatch

ABB · System

What does E3-16156 mean?

The F-Parameter configuration for the I/O bus module does not match the module's physical address switch value. This discrepancy indicates an incorrect setup, potentially leading to improper I/O operation, communication failures, and system instability. Incorrect configuration can halt module functionality.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect F-Parameter setting (e.g., P01-01 'Module Address') in the controller's configuration software compared to the physical DIP switch setting on the I/O module.
  • Physical DIP or rotary switch on the I/O bus module is misconfigured for the intended bus address (e.g., set to 0x05 when the controller expects 0x07).
  • Firmware corruption on the I/O bus module causing it to misinterpret its configured address, even if the physical switches are set correctly.
  • System integrator error during commissioning, where the software configuration was not synchronized with the module's hardware address setting.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Read the current physical address setting from the DIP or rotary switches on the I/O bus module.

  2. 2

    2. Access the PLC/controller's configuration software and navigate to the I/O module's F-Parameter settings (e.g., parameter P01-01 'Bus Address').

  3. 3

    3. Verify that the software-configured address matches the physical switch setting. If not, adjust the software parameter to match the physical setting and download the configuration.

  4. 4

    4. Power cycle the I/O module (by removing and reapplying 24VDC to terminals L+ and M) and the main controller to re-establish communication with the updated configuration.

  5. 5

    5. Measure the voltage on the module's power terminals (e.g., 24VDC) to ensure stable power delivery, as voltage fluctuations can sometimes corrupt parameter writes.
