Display Initialization Error

ABB · System

What does E3-22 mean?

An error occurred during the initialization process of the system's display unit. This means the display may not be functioning correctly, showing no output, or displaying garbled information, hindering user interaction, diagnosis, and overall system usability.

Common Causes

  • Damaged display unit hardware (e.g., internal LCD controller, graphics memory failure).
  • Loose, damaged, or unseated display communication cable (e.g., LVDS, HDMI, DVI) between the CPU and display.
  • Insufficient or unstable power supply to the display unit (e.g., 24VDC below 21.6VDC).
  • Corrupted display firmware or incorrect graphics driver loaded into the HMI/controller.
  • Incorrect display resolution or refresh rate configured in the system (e.g., Parameter P_RES_X, P_RES_Y).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Verify the display unit's power supply voltage (e.g., 24VDC) at its input terminals using a multimeter.

  2. 2

    2. Reseat the display unit's communication cable at both the display and controller ends.

  3. 3

    3. Access the HMI/PLC configuration software and verify display parameters (e.g., P_SCREEN_SIZE, P_COLOR_DEPTH).

  4. 4

    4. Perform a power cycle of the display unit by switching off power for 30 seconds and then reapplying.

  5. 5
