F48

Params Defaulted

Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 4M Adjustable Frequency

What does F48 mean?

This fault indicates that the drive has been commanded to restore its parameters to factory default values, typically through a user action or system command. While not a malfunction, it means previous custom configurations are lost, which could lead to incorrect operation if not re-programmed.

Common Causes

  • Accidental initiation of a factory reset command via the drive's HMI or control software.
  • External command received through a communication network (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP) specifically requesting a parameter default.
  • Internal non-volatile memory corruption requiring the drive's firmware to default parameters (rare).
  • Replacement of the drive's control board without a proper parameter backup and restore procedure.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Identify the method by which parameters were defaulted (e.g., HMI button sequence, network command, specific parameter setting like P1-05).

  2. 2

Upload a previously saved parameter configuration file from backup software to restore settings to the drive.

  3. 3

If no backup exists, manually re-enter all critical motor and application parameters (e.g., P3-08, P3-09, P3-10, P3-11).

  4. 4

Review security settings or user access levels to prevent unauthorized parameter changes or resets.

  5. 5

Perform a full functional test of the drive and connected equipment after parameters are restored and saved.
