F01D

Disk File In Use by Another Application (Offline Only)

Allen-Bradley · Logix and SLC PLC

What does F01D mean?

This fault is specific to offline operations and means that a disk file needed for an update is currently in use by another application. This prevents the update from proceeding until the file is released, and thus the update is not performed.

Common Causes

  • Another software program is actively using the target disk file.
  • File is locked by the operating system for a background task.
  • Conflict with antivirus software scanning the file.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Identify and close all non-essential applications running on the engineering workstation, especially other Rockwell Automation software or file management tools, that might be accessing the project or update files.

  2. 2

Verify that no other user or process is actively holding a lock on the target disk file(s) required for the offline update operation, utilizing Task Manager to inspect running processes.

  3. 3

Restart the engineering workstation to clear any lingering file locks or phantom processes, then re-attempt the offline update operation.

  4. 4

Inspect the configuration of antivirus or endpoint security software on the engineering workstation and temporarily disable or create an exclusion for the update directory/files if suspected of interfering with file access.
