Auto Restart Tries Exceeded

Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 40 Adjustable Frequency

What does F33 mean?

This fault indicates that the drive has exhausted its configured number of automatic restart attempts (parameter A092 [Auto Rstrt Tries]) after a previous fault. The underlying cause of the initial fault must be addressed before the drive can restart.

Common Causes

  • The underlying fault condition (e.g., overload, undervoltage) repeatedly reoccurs, exhausting the configured auto-restart attempts.
  • Parameter A092 [Auto Rstrt Tries] is set to a low number (e.g., 0 or 1), preventing sufficient recovery attempts for transient faults.
  • An intermittent fault condition that resolves temporarily but then reappears, tripping the drive multiple times.
  • The drive is attempting to restart into an unresolved mechanical jam or electrical issue that immediately re-trips the drive.
  • Auto-restart delay (e.g., A090 [Auto Rstrt Delay]) or number of tries parameters are not optimized for the application, leading to rapid re-tripping.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Identify and troubleshoot the *original* fault code that triggered the auto-restart sequence by checking the drive's fault history log.

  2. 2

Verify drive parameter A092 [Auto Rstrt Tries] is set to an appropriate number for the application, or '0' if auto-restart is not desired.

  3. 3

Monitor the operating conditions and drive display after a restart to observe if the original fault reoccurs and determine its cause.

  4. 4

Inspect the mechanical load and motor to ensure no persistent physical obstruction or electrical issue is present, which would immediately re-trip the drive.

  5. 5

If the original fault was intermittent, consider adjusting parameter A090 [Auto Rstrt Delay] to allow more time for transient conditions to clear before restarting.
