DPI Port Communication Loss

Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 700

What does 81-85 mean?

A DPI port has stopped communicating, or a SCANport device was connected to a drive operating DPI devices at 500k baud. This indicates a loss of communication with a connected DPI device, which can prevent control commands or feedback from reaching the drive. The fault code varies depending on which port (1-5) lost communication.

Common Causes

  • Loss of communication on the DPI (Drive Parallel Interface) port.
  • Faulty DPI cable connection.
  • Incorrect DPI addressing or configuration (e.g., P8-xx parameters).
  • Communication failure with the connected device on the DPI bus.
  • DPI device not powered or malfunctioning.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

If the adapter was not intentionally disconnected, check the wiring to the affected DPI port.

  2. 2

Check the HIM (Human Interface Module) connection.

  3. 3

If an adapter was intentionally disconnected and the [Logic Mask] bit for that adapter is set to "1", set the [Logic Mask] bit for the adapter to "0" to disable this fault.

  4. 4

Replace wiring, port expander, adapters, or Main Control Board as required.
