Transistor Overtemperature

Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 700

What does 9 mean?

The output transistors have exceeded their maximum operating temperature. This indicates that the power semiconductors are overheating, which can lead to premature failure of the drive.

Common Causes

  • Internal temperature of the power transistor or IGBT exceeds limits.
  • Inadequate heatsink cooling or fan failure.
  • Excessive motor current causing transistor heating.
  • High ambient temperature.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify that the maximum ambient temperature around the drive enclosure has not been exceeded.

  2. 2

Check the operation of the cooling fan (e.g., for obstructions, wear, or failure).

  3. 3

Check for excess load on the motor, which would increase drive current and heat generation.
