Heat sink sensor

Danfoss · VLT AutomationDrive FC 301/302

What does 39 mean?

No feedback is received from the heat sink temperature sensor, meaning the IGBT thermal sensor signal is unavailable on the power card. The problem could stem from the power card, gatedrive card, or the ribbon cable connecting them.

Common Causes

  • Disconnection or open circuit in the heat sink temperature sensor wiring between the sensor and the gatedrive card.
  • Faulty heat sink temperature sensor (e.g., RTD, NTC thermistor) providing an out-of-range resistance value.
  • Malfunction on the gatedrive card's analog input circuit responsible for reading the heat sink sensor.
  • Poor thermal paste application between the sensor and the heatsink, leading to incorrect temperature transfer to the sensor.
  • Power card internal defect preventing the sensor signal from reaching the control unit.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Power down the drive and allow it to cool, then disconnect the heatsink sensor connector from the gatedrive card.

  2. 2

Measure the resistance of the heat sink temperature sensor across its terminals; compare to datasheet values (e.g., 10kOhm at 25C).

  3. 3

Inspect the heatsink sensor wiring for breaks, pinches, or loose connections at the sensor and gatedrive card.

  4. 4

Verify the gatedrive card's terminal connections are secure and free of corrosion.

  5. 5

If the sensor and wiring test good, consider replacing the gatedrive card, ensuring proper thermal contact.
