Fieldbus communication fault

Danfoss · VLT HVAC Drive FC 102

What does 34 mean?

The fieldbus communication option card is not functioning or communicating correctly. This prevents the drive from receiving commands or sending status information to the connected control system, leading to loss of remote control and monitoring capabilities. Unresolved, this fault will halt automated operation.

Common Causes

  • Fieldbus cable (e.g., Profibus DP, Ethernet/IP) is damaged, has loose connections, or incorrect termination.
  • Incorrect fieldbus address or baud rate set in the drive's parameters (e.g., P8-10, P8-11) or PLC configuration.
  • Fieldbus option module itself is faulty or not properly seated on the control card.
  • PLC or master controller is not actively communicating with the drive or has stopped sending commands.
  • Missing or incorrect termination resistors on the fieldbus network, especially at bus ends.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Inspect the fieldbus cable for physical damage and verify secure connections at both the drive and the PLC/master.

  2. 2

    2. Confirm that fieldbus parameters P8-10 (Bus Address) and P8-11 (Baud Rate) match the PLC configuration.

  3. 3

    3. Verify that fieldbus termination resistors are correctly installed (e.g., ON/OFF switches) at the network's physical ends.

  4. 4

    4. Observe the status LEDs on the fieldbus option module for communication errors (e.g., flashing red LED).

  5. 5

    5. Use a fieldbus analyzer tool to monitor network traffic and identify communication gaps or errors.
