Safe Stop activated

Danfoss · VLT HVAC Drive FC 102

What does 68 mean?

The Safe Stop function has been activated, bringing the motor to a controlled stop and preventing unintended restart. This is a critical safety feature typically triggered by an external safety input. The drive will remain in this state until the safety input is cleared and a reset commanded.

Common Causes

  • External safety circuit device (e.g., emergency stop button, light curtain, safety gate switch) has been activated.
  • Faulty wiring or short circuit in the external Safe Torque Off (STO) or Safe Stop input (e.g., terminals 37, 38).
  • Internal safety relay failure or component malfunction within the drive's safety circuit.
  • Momentary power sag causing transient activation of the safety input monitoring circuit.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Verify the status of all connected external safety devices (e.g., E-Stop, safety mats, light curtains) are reset and active.

  2. 2

    2. Measure the voltage across the Safe Stop input terminals (e.g., 37 and 38) to confirm expected safety circuit status.

  3. 3

    3. Inspect wiring for the Safe Stop circuit for damage, loose connections, or incorrect termination.

  4. 4

    4. Cycle power to the drive and attempt to reset the fault through the LCP or via the external safety reset input.
