ALARM 58

AMA internal fault

Danfoss · VLT HVAC Basic FC 101

What does ALARM 58 mean?

An internal fault occurred within the frequency converter during the Automatic Motor Adaptation (AMA) process. This suggests a problem with the drive's internal diagnostics or control logic, preventing accurate motor parameter identification.

Common Causes

  • Drive internal hardware component failure (e.g., current sensor, control board component, power module).
  • Corrupted firmware or software error within the drive's control logic during the AMA sequence.
  • Excessive electrical noise on the control signals or power bus during AMA, interfering with diagnostics.
  • Overheating of internal components during repeated AMA attempts or in high ambient temperatures.
  • Incompatible control card and power card combination, causing an internal communication error.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Power cycle the frequency converter (turn off and on mains supply) and retry the AMA process.

  2. 2

Check for proper grounding of the drive and motor, and ensure cable shielding is correctly terminated.

  3. 3

Verify the ambient temperature around the frequency converter is within its specified operating range.

  4. 4

Attempt to update the drive's firmware if a newer version is available and applicable.

  5. 5

If the fault persists after basic troubleshooting, replacement of the frequency converter or control card is likely required.
