WARNING/ALARM 95

Broken belt

Danfoss · VLT HVAC Basic FC 101

What does WARNING/ALARM 95 mean?

The torque measured by the motor is below the threshold set for no-load conditions, strongly indicating a broken or severely slipping belt in the mechanical system. This results in a loss of power transmission to the driven equipment.

Common Causes

  • Physical breakage of the drive belt(s) connecting the motor to the mechanical load.
  • Severe slipping of the drive belt due to wear, incorrect tension, or contamination (e.g., oil).
  • Failure of the coupling between the motor shaft and the driven equipment shaft (e.g., sheared key, broken flange).
  • Loss of mechanical load (e.g., pump running dry, fan impeller detached from shaft, agitator blade broken).
  • Motor shaft or driven equipment shaft shear, disconnecting the motor from the load.
  • Incorrectly set minimum torque threshold (P4-02 or similar) for no-load detection in the drive.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Visually inspect the drive belt(s) for breakage, severe wear, cracks, or signs of slipping (e.g., rubber dust).

  2. 2

Check the tension of the drive belt(s) using a belt tension meter; adjust to manufacturer specifications.

  3. 3

Inspect the motor coupling and driven equipment coupling for damage, looseness, or sheared pins/keys.

  4. 4

Manually attempt to rotate the driven equipment (if safe) to verify if the motor is still connected to the load.

  5. 5

Verify the no-load torque threshold parameter (e.g., P4-02 or similar) is set appropriately for the application's idle state.

  6. 6

Check for issues like a pump running dry or a fan impeller detaching from its shaft.
