Motor ETR Overload

Danfoss · VLT Micro Drive FC 51

What does 100 mean?

This fault signifies that the drive's Electronic Thermal Relay (ETR) function for motor protection has detected an overload condition based on the motor's current and thermal model. This indicates the motor is experiencing prolonged high current, leading to potential overheating and damage if not addressed.

Common Causes

  • Motor continuously operating at a current exceeding its nominal rating for an extended duration.
  • Parameter P5-01 (Motor Rated Current) or P5-03 (Motor Rated Power) set incorrectly, leading to an inaccurate thermal model.
  • Insufficient motor cooling due to blocked ventilation fins, high ambient temperature, or failed motor fan.
  • Excessive load on the motor, causing it to draw higher current than designed for its frame size.
  • Parameter P4-01 (Motor Overload Class) set too aggressively (e.g., Class 10 for a high inertia load).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Monitor the drive's output current (e.g., Display P0-02) during operation and compare to motor nameplate data.

  2. 2

Verify Parameter P5-01 (Motor Rated Current) and P5-03 (Motor Rated Power) match the motor nameplate exactly.

  3. 3

Inspect the motor's cooling fins and fan for obstructions or damage, ensuring proper airflow.

  4. 4

Check for any mechanical issues on the driven load that might be causing increased current draw.

  5. 5

Adjust Parameter P4-01 (Motor Overload Class) to a higher value (e.g., Class 20 or 30) for high inertia or long acceleration loads.
