Danfoss · VLT Micro Drive FC 51
This fault indicates that the motor's thermal model or external thermal sensor has detected an overheating condition. Continuous operation in an overheated state will degrade motor insulation, leading to premature motor failure and costly repairs or replacements. The drive trips to protect the motor.
Click steps to track your progress.
Measure the actual motor current (via LCP display P06-00) during operation and compare against the motor's nameplate nominal current.
Inspect the motor's cooling fins and fan for obstructions, dust buildup, or damage, ensuring free airflow.
Verify the motor nominal current (P1-23) and motor thermal protection time (P1-24) are correctly configured per the motor nameplate.
If using an external thermistor, measure its resistance at terminals 53/54 (or appropriate analog input) and compare against sensor data sheet values.
Consider increasing acceleration/deceleration ramp times (P1-41, P1-42) to reduce transient thermal stress during frequent starts/stops.
