nw run

Not While Running (Parameter change)

Danfoss · VLT Micro Drive FC 51

What does nw run mean?

An attempt was made to change a parameter that can only be modified when the motor is stopped. This protection mechanism prevents configuration changes that could cause instability, erratic behavior, or damage to the motor or driven equipment during operation.

Common Causes

  • Attempting to modify a critical motor control parameter (e.g., Parameter 1-01, 'Motor Control Principle') while the drive is actively running the motor.
  • Changing acceleration/deceleration ramp times (e.g., Parameter 2-01, 'Ramp 1 time') or motor data (e.g., Parameter 1-20, 'Motor power') during operation.
  • Modifying I/O terminal functions (e.g., Parameter 5-10, 'Terminal 29 Digital Input') while the associated terminal is actively controlling the drive.
  • Security feature preventing changes that could lead to unstable operation, motor damage, or unsafe conditions while the motor is running.
  • Attempting to initiate an autotune function (e.g., Parameter 8-00, 'Auto-tune') while the motor is not at a complete stop.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Issue a stop command to the drive and confirm the motor has completely stopped (output frequency 0 Hz) before attempting parameter modification.

  2. 2

Verify the drive is in a ready state (not running or faulted) by checking the LCP display or drive status register (e.g., Parameter 16-10).

  3. 3

If modifications are frequent, consider using parameters that allow 'Online' changes (if available) or plan maintenance windows for changes.

  4. 4

Ensure that no run commands are active on control terminals (e.g., Terminal 18, 'Start') or via communication (e.g., Modbus bit 0 in control word) while making changes.

  5. 5

Temporarily set Parameter 1-00 (Control Mode) to a basic configuration if advanced modes are preventing parameter changes while stopped.
