Battery Overvoltage

Fronius · Perfect Charging

What does 23 mean?

The connected battery's voltage has exceeded the maximum safe limit during or after a charging cycle. This is a critical condition that can lead to excessive gassing, overheating, and potential irreversible damage to the battery if not promptly addressed.

Common Causes

  • A malfunction or miscalibration in the battery charger's output voltage regulation circuit.
  • An incorrect battery type or nominal voltage setting selected in the charger's configuration, leading to charging at too high a voltage.
  • External factors causing voltage spikes or uncontrolled voltage rise on the battery terminals.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Immediately disconnect the battery from the charger to prevent further overvoltage and potential damage.

  2. 2

Verify the charger's output voltage regulation by measuring its open-circuit voltage (if safe to do so) or output voltage with a dummy load.

  3. 3

Check the charger's configuration parameters to ensure the correct battery nominal voltage and appropriate charge profile are selected for the connected battery type.
