Smart Meter Communication

Fronius · Symo Advanced

What does 702 mean?

This status code indicates a communication error with the Smart Meter connected to the Fronius Primo GEN24 208-240 inverter. This typically results from loose or incorrect wiring, improper Smart Meter configuration (e.g., Modbus address), or a defective Smart Meter itself, preventing accurate energy flow measurement.

Common Causes

  • Loose, incorrect, or damaged communication wiring (e.g., RS485) between the inverter and the Smart Meter.
  • Incorrect Smart Meter configuration, such as an incorrect Modbus address or other communication settings within the inverter parameters.
  • The Smart Meter device itself is defective and unable to communicate.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check the communication wiring (e.g., A/B lines for RS485) between the inverter and the Smart Meter for proper connection, polarity, and continuity.

  2. 2

Verify the Smart Meter's Modbus address and other communication settings (e.g., baud rate) in the inverter's user interface, ensuring they match the Smart Meter's configuration.

  3. 3

De-energize both the Smart Meter and the inverter, wait for 5 minutes, then re-energize them in sequence (Smart Meter first, then inverter) to reset communication.

  4. 4

If the message persists, the Smart Meter may require replacement.
