E251

Motor Overtemperature Warning

Indramat · ECODRIVE Controller

What does E251 mean?

As soon as the motor temperature warning threshold (145°C) is exceeded, warning E251 is generated. The ECODRIVE DKC01.1/DKC11.1 drive continues to comply with the command value. A shutdown (F219) occurs only if the temperature error threshold (155°C) is exceeded.

Common Causes

  • The motor became overloaded; the effective torque required of the motor was above the allowable standstill continuous torque for too long.
  • Poor ventilation around the motor, leading to insufficient cooling.
  • Increased friction or mechanical binding in the driven load.
  • Incorrect motor thermal model parameters in the ECODRIVE DKC01.1/DKC11.1 drive.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check the installation and loading of the motor. Verify if operating conditions have changed (e.g., increased friction, mechanical binding, poor ventilation).

  2. 2

Reduce the load on the motor or adjust the operating cycle to allow sufficient cooling time.

  3. 3

Verify the motor current against the motor nameplate FLA and the application requirements.

  4. 4

Inspect the motor temperature sensor wiring for continuity and correct connection to the ECODRIVE DKC01.1/DKC11.1 drive.
