F228

Excessive Deviation

Indramat · ECODRIVE Controller

What does F228 mean?

The drive was unable to process the given command value, resulting in a deviation from the commanded position/velocity that exceeded an allowable limit. The drive reacted by shutting down according to the set error reaction to prevent mechanical damage or uncontrolled movement.

Common Causes

  • The acceleration ability of the drive was exceeded.
  • The motor shaft was blocked.
  • Parameterization error in the drive parameters (control loop settings).
  • S-0-0159, Monitoring Window, was parameterized incorrectly.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check the Bipolar Torque Limit, parameter S-0-0092, and ensure it is set to the maximum allowable value for the application and motor.

  2. 2

Inspect the mechanical system for any binding, jamming, or blockage of the motor shaft or connected load, and eliminate the obstruction.

  3. 3

Review all relevant drive control loop parameters (e.g., gains, filters) to ensure they are correctly tuned for the application and motor.

  4. 4

Verify and correctly parameterize S-0-0159, Monitoring Window, to an appropriate value for the application's tolerance for deviation.

  5. 5

Reduce commanded acceleration or deceleration rates to remain within the drive's and mechanical system's capabilities.
