RS 04

RS Checksum Error

Indramat · ServoDyn D Servo Drive

What does RS 04 mean?

This serial communication error occurs when the checksum calculated by the CLM01.3-M from received data does not match the checksum transmitted by the sending device. This indicates data corruption during transmission, if checksum is enabled.

Common Causes

  • Data corruption or loss during serial transmission between the sending device and the CLM01.3-M.
  • Checksum calculation error on the sending device, resulting in an incorrect transmitted checksum.
  • Parameter 81 (Serial Interface Functions) is configured incorrectly for checksum (e.g., checksum enabled on one side, disabled on the other).
  • Noise or interference on the serial communication line.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify that the checksum being transmitted by the sending device is calculated correctly as per Chapter 7 (Serial Interface).

  2. 2

Ensure that Parameter 81 (Serial Interface Functions) on the CLM01.3-M is configured to match the checksum setting (enabled/disabled) of the sending device.

  3. 3

Re-transmit the information after confirming checksum calculation and settings.

  4. 4

Inspect the serial communication cable for damage, proper shielding, and correct connections.

  5. 5

If possible, use diagnostic tools to monitor the serial data stream and verify checksum integrity at different points in the communication path.
