Motor Cable Fault

Kuka · KR C2 Robot Controller

What does MOTOR CABLE Ax mean?

This error indicates a power unit overcurrent due to a short-circuit or ground fault, detected by hardware monitoring. It can also signify a ground fault detected by software monitoring, affecting the motor cable or motor itself.

Common Causes

  • Open circuit or short circuit in the motor power or feedback cable.
  • Loose connection at the motor or drive terminals.
  • Damage to the motor cable insulation.
  • Incorrect cable type or length used.
  • Encoder signal integrity issue (P4-xx).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Perform a visual inspection of the motor cable for the specified axis (Ax) for visible damage, insulation breaches, short circuits, or ground faults.

  2. 2

Measure insulation resistance between motor phases U-V, V-W, U-W and each phase to ground using a megger – expect >1 MΩ.

  3. 3

Check the motor itself for internal faults that could cause a short circuit or ground fault.
