Output Phase Loss

Mitsubishi Electric · FR-A800 Troubleshooting Course

What does E.LF mean?

This fault indicates that one or more output phases from the FR-A800 inverter to the motor are either open-circuited or have a significant current imbalance. This can lead to motor overheating, reduced torque, and damage to the motor or inverter if operation continues.

Common Causes

  • Loose or disconnected wiring between the FR-A800 inverter output terminals (U, V, W) and the motor.
  • Broken motor cable or damaged motor winding.
  • Poor contact within a motor contactor or terminal block if present in the motor circuit.
  • Internal fault within the FR-A800 inverter's output stage (e.g., IGBT failure).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Immediately power down the FR-A800 inverter and visually inspect all connections from the inverter's output terminals (U, V, W) to the motor terminals. Tighten any loose connections.

  2. 2

Measure the resistance between each output phase (U-V, V-W, U-W) at the inverter output terminals with the motor disconnected. Expected values should be similar and indicate the motor winding resistance.

  3. 3

Check the continuity and insulation of the motor cable for breaks or damage.

  4. 4

Inspect any motor contactors, filters, or reactors in the output circuit for proper operation and connection.

  5. 5

If all external wiring and the motor check out, the fault may lie within the inverter's output stage, requiring professional service.
