PF Temp Err

Temperature Sensor Malfunction

Omron · SXF Inverter

What does PF Temp Err mean?

This fault indicates a malfunction in one of the drive's internal temperature sensors. Without accurate temperature feedback, the VSD cannot properly protect itself from overheating, which is a critical safety mechanism. This can lead to unmonitored temperature increases and subsequent component failure or damage if the drive continues to operate.

Common Causes

  • Open circuit or short circuit in the temperature sensor wiring or connection.
  • Failed temperature sensor (e.g., NTC thermistor, PT100/1000) itself.
  • Damaged Analogue-to-Digital Converter (ADC) input on the control board for the sensor.
  • Loose connector for the temperature sensor on the control board.
  • Electromagnetic interference affecting the low-voltage sensor signal.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Power down and disconnect drive. Locate the internal temperature sensor(s) (e.g., on heatsink or power board).

  2. 2

Measure resistance of the temperature sensor (e.g., NTC thermistor) at ambient temperature and compare to its datasheet value.

  3. 3

Inspect sensor wiring for cuts, pinches, or loose connections to the control board.

  4. 4

Reseat the temperature sensor connector on the control board.

  5. 5

Check for proper shielding of sensor wires if they run near power cables.
