Option Board Failure

Omron · SXF Inverter

What does Option mean?

This fault indicates a failure or malfunction on an installed built-in option board within the VSD. This could be due to a hardware defect, incorrect installation, or corrupted firmware on the option board. Depending on the option board's function (e.g., fieldbus communication, I/O expansion), this can affect drive control, communication, or specific application functionalities. Continued operation with a failed option board might lead to unstable system behavior or loss of critical functions.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect installation of the option board (e.g., not fully seated in the slot, bent pins, wrong slot used).
  • Hardware defect on the option board itself (e.g., component failure, manufacturing defect).
  • Incompatible or corrupted firmware on the option board or between the option board and the main VSD controller.
  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage to the option board during handling or installation.
  • Power supply issue to the option board slot on the VSD's main control board.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Remove and re-seat the option board firmly into its designated slot. Ensure all connectors are securely engaged.

  2. 2

Check the VSD's event log or diagnostic display for specific sub-codes related to the option board (e.g., OPTION1 fault, specific error ID).

  3. 3

Verify the option board's firmware version is compatible with the VSD's main firmware. Update firmware if necessary using the VSD programming tool.

  4. 4

If a spare option board is available, replace the installed board with a known good one to determine if the fault is board-specific.

  5. 5

Measure the voltage rails (e.g., 5VDC, 3.3VDC) supplied to the option board slot on the main control board, if safe and accessible.
