Schneider Electric · Altistart 22 Soft Starter
A short circuit has been detected on the soft starter's output, typically between motor phases or from a phase to ground. This is a severe fault that can cause immediate and significant damage to the soft starter and motor.
Click steps to track your progress.
1. IMMEDIATELY disconnect all incoming power from the soft starter at the upstream disconnect switch or circuit breaker.
2. Disconnect motor leads (U, V, W) from the soft starter output terminals (T1, T2, T3).
3. Using a multimeter, perform a continuity test between each motor phase lead (U-V, V-W, W-U) and from each phase to the motor frame (ground).
4. Inspect the motor cable for any visible signs of severe damage, crushing, or chafing, especially where it enters conduit or terminal boxes.
5. With motor and cables disconnected, check for continuity between soft starter output phases (T1-T2, T2-T3, T3-T1) and from each phase to soft starter ground (PE) with a multimeter.
6. Perform proper motor winding resistance (phase-to-phase) and insulation resistance (phase-to-ground) tests using a Megohmmeter.
