F13.11

Data timeout

SEW Eurodrive · MOVIDRIVE system

What does F13.11 mean?

Encoder 1 has failed to provide process data within the expected timeframe, resulting in a data timeout. This typically points to communication issues caused by electromagnetic interference (EMC) or incorrect startup parameters.

Common Causes

  • Intermittent electromagnetic interference (EMI) on the encoder communication lines causing data corruption and retransmissions.
  • Loose or corroded connections on the encoder communication cable terminals (e.g., X10 on drive, encoder connector).
  • Incorrectly configured communication baud rate (P7-01) or data rate mismatch between the encoder and the drive.
  • Defective encoder unit failing to transmit data packets reliably within the expected timeframe.
  • Insufficient voltage supply to the encoder (below 20VDC) causing intermittent operation or power resets.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Measure the voltage supply at the encoder terminals (typically +24VDC) to ensure it is within specified range (e.g., 20-28VDC).

  2. 2

Verify the communication baud rate setting (P7-01) in the drive matches the encoder's specified baud rate.

  3. 3

Inspect all connections of the encoder communication cable, ensuring proper seating and torque of terminal screws.

  4. 4

Check the cable shielding for proper grounding at the drive end (SG terminal) and for continuity to the encoder body.

  5. 5

Monitor the communication status (e.g., P7-02) and data integrity using a communication protocol analyzer if available.
