F13.12

Emergency

SEW Eurodrive · MOVIDRIVE system

What does F13.12 mean?

Encoder 1 has transmitted an emergency error message, indicating a critical internal or communication issue requiring immediate attention. This is often triggered by severe interference or incorrect communication parameters, leading to loss of position control.

Common Causes

  • Severe internal fault within the encoder unit, often indicated by an internal diagnostic LED on the encoder.
  • Catastrophic communication bus failure (e.g., CANopen 'bus off' state) preventing normal data exchange.
  • Excessive electromagnetic interference (EMI) causing unrecoverable data errors on the communication link.
  • Incorrect network termination or excessive bus length causing signal reflection and communication instability.
  • Encoder's internal software or firmware corruption leading to an unhandled exception.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check the diagnostic LED(s) on the encoder unit itself for specific error codes or states (refer to encoder manual).

  2. 2

Verify the communication cable integrity, especially for shorts to ground or supply voltage on data lines.

  3. 3

Measure the bus termination resistors at both ends of the communication network to ensure correct values (e.g., 120 Ohms for CANopen).

  4. 4

Power cycle the encoder and the drive, then attempt to re-initialize the communication network (Parameter P7-00 set to 1).

  5. 5

Isolate the encoder from the network and re-connect it directly to the drive (if possible) to see if the emergency message persists.
