Microprosessor watchdog fault

Vacon · NXP AFE-II Drive

What does F25 mean?

The drive's internal watchdog timer has detected an issue preventing normal microprocessor operation or startup. This can occur if the drive startup is prevented or a run request is active while a new application is being loaded. This fault indicates a critical internal control issue.

Common Causes

  • Firmware crash or software deadlock within the drive's microprocessor, preventing normal execution.
  • Malfunctioning internal hardware (e.g., memory, CPU) on the control board, causing the processor to halt or loop.
  • Corrupted firmware image or bootloader preventing successful startup.
  • Severe electromagnetic interference (EMI) causing temporary processor instability.
  • Incompatibility issues after a firmware update or option board installation.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Perform a full power cycle of the drive (turn off, wait at least 30 seconds, then turn on) to attempt a hard reset of the microprocessor.

  2. 2

If a new option board was recently installed, remove it and re-test the drive. Ensure compatibility and proper seating of the option board.

  3. 3

Attempt to re-flash or update the drive's firmware to the latest stable version. This can resolve corrupted firmware issues.

  4. 4

Disconnect all external control signals (digital inputs, analog inputs, fieldbus) and attempt to power up the drive. Reconnect one by one to isolate external influences.

  5. 5

If the fault persists, the drive's main control board is likely faulty and requires replacement or factory service.
