F50

4mA supervision

Vacon · NXP AFE-II Drive

What does F50 mean?

The current at an analog input has dropped below the 4mA supervision limit. This typically indicates a failure in the signal source, a broken control cable, or a loose connection within the current loop circuitry. This means the drive is not receiving expected sensor feedback.

Common Causes

  • Break or damage in the control cable (e.g., 4-20mA loop) connected to the drive's analog input terminal (e.g., AI1).
  • Malfunction or failure of the external 4-20mA current loop signal source (e.g., pressure transmitter, flow meter).
  • Loose or corroded connection at the drive's analog input terminal block (e.g., AI1+, AI1-) or at the sensor's output terminals.
  • Incorrect scaling parameter (e.g., P2-10 for Analog Input 1 Min) set above the actual minimum current detected.
  • Internal damage to the drive's analog input circuit or signal conditioning board.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Measure the current directly at the analog input terminals (e.g., AI1, AGND) using a multimeter to confirm it is below 4mA.

  2. 2

Measure the output current directly from the signal source device to verify its operational integrity.

  3. 3

Perform a continuity test on the control cable between the signal source and the drive's analog input terminals (e.g., AI1) using an ohmmeter.

  4. 4

Tighten all terminal connections at the drive's analog input and at the signal source device.

  5. 5

Review parameter P2-10 (Analog Input 1 Min) and P2-11 (Analog Input 1 Max) to ensure they are correctly configured for the sensor's range.
