F71

LCL Temperature

Vacon · NXP AFE-II Drive

What does F71 mean?

The LCL (Line Commutated Inductor) temperature has reached its warning limit, indicating elevated temperatures within the input filter components. While currently a warning, it suggests conditions that could lead to an over-temperature fault if unaddressed.

Common Causes

  • Continuous operation at or above the drive's rated input current, leading to excessive heat generation in the LCL inductor.
  • Poor cooling efficiency due to blocked cooling fins, dirty air filters, or a malfunctioning cooling fan in the LCL compartment.
  • High ambient temperature surrounding the drive, causing the internal temperature of the LCL to rise above its warning limit.
  • Harmonic distortion on the input power supply, increasing losses and temperature within the LCL filter components.
  • Internal degradation or partial shorting of windings within the LCL inductor, leading to localized overheating.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Measure the actual load current (e.g., using a clamp meter on input phases L1, L2, L3) and compare it to the drive's rated current.

  2. 2

Verify the drive's cooling fans are operating correctly and that air intake and exhaust vents are free from obstruction.

  3. 3

Measure the ambient temperature around the drive enclosure and ensure it is within the manufacturer's specified limits (e.g., 0-40°C).

  4. 4

Visually inspect the LCL inductor for signs of discoloration, bulging, or melted insulation, indicating excessive heat.

  5. 5

Analyze the input power quality for harmonic content using a power quality analyzer if excessive losses are suspected.
