F80

Charging Fault

Vacon · NXP AFE-II Drive

What does F80 mean?

The drive failed to reach the required DC voltage within the set charging time for the Main Circuit Breaker (MCB). This can be due to a non-operational charging circuit, a high load on the DC link during charging, or an insufficient supply voltage for the charging circuit. This prevents the drive from starting up properly.

Common Causes

  • Failure of the pre-charge resistors or the associated contactors in the DC link charging circuit.
  • Loss of one or more input AC phases (e.g., L1, L2, L3) to the drive's rectifier bridge, preventing full DC bus voltage.
  • Excessive load on the DC link during the charging sequence, drawing current faster than the pre-charge circuit can supply.
  • Degraded or shorted DC link capacitors, unable to hold charge or presenting a high leakage current.
  • Faulty DC link voltage measurement circuit or sensor providing an incorrect reading to the drive's control board.
  • Parameter P5-06 (DC Link Charge Time) set too short for the drive unit's capacitance or application.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Measure the input AC line voltage (e.g., between L1-L2, L2-L3, L3-L1) to confirm all phases are present and at nominal voltage.

  2. 2

Verify the resistance of the pre-charge resistors (if accessible) using an ohmmeter to ensure they are not open or shorted.

  3. 3

Measure the DC link voltage across the DC+ and DC- terminals after attempting to clear the fault, observing the charge rate.

  4. 4

Inspect the pre-charge contactors or solid-state devices for proper operation (e.g., coil voltage, contact continuity).

  5. 5

Increase parameter P5-06 (DC Link Charge Time) in small increments to allow more time for the DC link capacitors to charge.
