Frequency converter overtemperature

Vacon · NXP/C

What does 14 mean?

The heatsink temperature of the frequency converter has exceeded 90 °C (a warning is issued at 85 °C). Subcodes in T.14 indicate the measurement source (S1 = Measurement, S2 = Internal thermistor). Prolonged operation at high temperatures can cause irreversible damage to the drive's internal components.

Common Causes

  • Overheating of the converter heatsink.
  • Ambient temperature too high.
  • Cooling fan failure or malfunction.
  • Blocked ventilation grilles or dust accumulation.
  • Excessive switching frequency or high load operation (P1-06).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify that the cooling fan(s) of the frequency converter are operating correctly and providing adequate airflow.

  2. 2

Clean any dust or debris from the heatsink fins to ensure efficient heat dissipation.

  3. 3

Measure the ambient temperature surrounding the frequency converter; ensure it is within the specified operating limits.

  4. 4

Review parameter settings for switching frequency; reduce it if found to be too high in relation to the ambient temperature and motor load.
