What does F88 mean?

This fault is triggered by a digital input fault, signaling an excessively high ambient temperature detected by an external sensor. This indicates the operating environment is too hot for the drive.

Common Causes

  • Ambient temperature inside the control cabinet or operating environment exceeds the permissible limit (e.g., >40°C) for the drive, as detected by an external temperature sensor.
  • Failure of control cabinet cooling fans or drive-integrated fans, leading to inadequate heat dissipation and a rise in internal temperature.
  • Restricted airflow to the drive's heatsink or control cabinet ventilation openings due to blocked vents, insufficient clearance, or excessive dust accumulation.
  • Malfunction of the external temperature sensor (e.g., RTD, thermistor, bimetallic switch) or its monitoring circuit, causing a false high temperature signal to the digital input.
  • Other heat-generating equipment operating excessively close to the drive or control cabinet, contributing to localized hot spots.

    1. Measure the current ambient temperature inside the control cabinet and directly surrounding the drive. Compare this to the drive's maximum specified operating temperature (e.g., from nameplate or manual).

    2. Inspect all ventilation openings and filters on the drive and control cabinet. Clean or replace any clogged filters or remove any obstructions impeding airflow.

    3. Verify the operational status of all cabinet cooling fans and drive-integrated fans. Confirm they are spinning freely and moving air effectively. Check for blocked fan blades.

    4. Check the wiring from the external temperature sensor to the drive's digital input (e.g., DI9). If it's a switch, measure continuity. If it's an RTD/thermistor, measure resistance and compare to datasheet.
