Restart Lockout (Adv. Code 0)

Vacon · X4

What does 10 mean?

This fault occurs when the drive has attempted to automatically restart after a fault more times than permitted by the customer-defined parameter for fault restarts. This safety feature prevents continuous, unsuccessful restarts that could damage equipment or worsen an underlying, recurring problem. Manual intervention is required.

Common Causes

  • Multiple recurring faults (e.g., Overvoltage, Undervoltage, Overcurrent) triggering the auto-restart attempt limit.
  • Parameter P0-23 (Auto-Restart Retries) set to a low value (e.g., 0 or 1) combined with persistent external transient conditions.
  • Frequent power cycling or brief power interruptions leading to repeated restart attempts.
  • Persistent mechanical issue on the load (e.g., jammed conveyor, worn bearing) causing repeated motor overloads which then clear and trigger restarts.
  • Drive operating in an unstable environment (e.g., unstable grid, fluctuating load) causing borderline fault conditions.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Review the drive's fault history log to identify the primary recurring fault (e.g., F6 Instantaneous Overcurrent, F9 Input Voltage Imbalance).

  2. 2

    2. Increase parameter P0-23 (Auto-Restart Retries) to a higher value (e.g., 5-10) only after investigating and understanding the root cause of recurring faults.

  3. 3

    3. Measure the input line voltage (L1, L2, L3) for stability and absence of transient sags or swells using a power quality analyzer.

  4. 4

    4. Inspect the mechanical load for any binding, excessive friction, or misalignment that could lead to intermittent overloads.

  5. 5

    5. Reset the drive manually via the HMI stop/start button or digital input reset signal after clearing the root cause of the previous faults.
