External Fault (Terminal S3)

What does EF3 mean?

This fault indicates that an external device triggered a fault via the Multi-Function Digital Input (MFDI) terminal S3, or there is incorrect wiring to S3, or the terminal is incorrectly configured for an external fault despite not being in use. This causes the drive to halt operation based on an external signal, potentially stopping connected machinery.

• A critical process sensor (e.g., over-temperature switch, level sensor) connected to terminal S3 has detected an abnormal condition.
• Wiring error during installation to terminal S3, such as cross-wiring or improper stripping, leading to an open or short circuit.
• Parameter configuration for S3 (e.g., P2-03) does not match the physical wiring or external device's intended logic.
• Intermittent fault from the external device connected to S3 (e.g., a vibrating sensor, loose internal connection).
• Degraded or failing input protection circuit on the drive for terminal S3, leading to false fault detection.
