External Fault (Terminal S4)

What does EF4 mean?

This fault indicates that an external device triggered a fault via the Multi-Function Digital Input (MFDI) terminal S4, or there is incorrect wiring to S4, or the terminal is incorrectly configured for an external fault despite not being in use. This causes the drive to halt operation based on an external signal, potentially stopping connected machinery.

• A supervisory control input (e.g., from a PLC output module) connected to terminal S4 has de-energized, indicating an external fault.
• Loose terminal screw or poor crimp on the wire connected to S4, leading to an open circuit.
• Drive parameter (e.g., P2-04) for S4 is set to an unintended external fault function or has an inverted logic type.
• The external control system (e.g., PLC) has initiated a fault state that is relayed to S4.
• Ground loop or common mode noise affecting the signal integrity on the S4 input line, causing false fault triggers.
