oL5

Mechanical Weakening Detection 1

Yaskawa · V1000

What does oL5 mean?

The drive detected overtorque conditions consistent with mechanical weakening or fatigue, as defined by the settings in L6-08 [Mechanical Fatigue Detect Select]. This fault indicates potential degradation of crucial machine components, such as bearings or gearboxes. If ignored, this could lead to catastrophic mechanical failure and significant downtime.

Common Causes

  • Gradual increase in friction due to bearing wear in the motor, gearbox, or driven machine.
  • Deterioration of mechanical components (e.g., worn gears, stretched belts, failing couplings) leading to increased load.
  • Accumulation of debris or build-up within the driven process, causing slowly increasing resistance.
  • Incorrect threshold setting for L6-08 (Mechanical Fatigue Detect Select) or associated parameters.
  • Intermittent partial short circuit in motor windings that manifests under load/temperature.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Review parameter L6-08 (Mechanical Fatigue Detect Select) and its associated settings for appropriate thresholds and monitoring periods.

  2. 2

    2. Conduct a detailed inspection of the mechanical system, including bearings, gears, belts, and couplings, for signs of wear or damage.

  3. 3

    3. Monitor the drive's output current (e.g., U1-06) over an extended period (trend data if available) to observe gradual increases.

  4. 4

    4. Measure the operating temperature of the motor and gearbox with an IR thermometer to detect abnormal heat generation.

  5. 5

    5. Perform vibration analysis on the motor and driven equipment to identify failing bearings or misalignments.

  6. 6

    6. If adjustable, slightly increase the torque detection level or time parameters related to L6-08, but only after confirming no active mechanical issue.
