UL5

Mechanical Weakening Detection 2

Yaskawa · V1000

What does UL5 mean?

The drive detected undertorque conditions consistent with mechanical weakening or fatigue, as defined by the settings in L6-08 [Mechanical Fatigue Detect Select]. This fault suggests potential degradation of critical machine components or a loss of load. If unaddressed, this could lead to unexpected mechanical failure, loss of production, or unsafe operating conditions.

Common Causes

  • Progressive wear of mechanical bearings, gears, or other drive train components, reducing required torque.
  • Gradual degradation of pump impellers or fan blades, leading to decreased load resistance.
  • Loosening of critical mechanical fasteners over time, resulting in inefficient power transfer.
  • Incorrect threshold or selection criteria set in L6-08 (Mechanical Fatigue Detect Select).
  • Sensor drift or malfunction causing consistent underreporting of motor current feedback.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Perform a thorough mechanical inspection of the motor, gearbox, and driven load for wear, damage, or looseness.

  2. 2

Monitor motor current (U1-03) and corresponding mechanical output over several operational cycles to observe trends.

  3. 3

Adjust L6-08 (Mechanical Fatigue Detect Select) to a value sensitive to gradual changes but tolerant of normal operation.

  4. 4

Utilize predictive maintenance tools (e.g., vibration analysis) to identify mechanical degradation.

  5. 5

Verify the accuracy of the drive's internal current measurement against a calibrated external clamp meter.
