E3-18

Channel Cross-talk / iParameter Plausibility Check Failed

ABB · AC500-S Safety Controller

¿Qué significa E3-18 ?

This code indicates two distinct issues: either unintended signal interference between channels within the safety I/O module (cross-talk), or an inconsistency/invalidity in the iParameters during a plausibility check. Both can lead to incorrect signal interpretation or module malfunction, compromising safety.

Causas comunes

  • Unshielded or improperly routed safety I/O wiring allowing inductive or capacitive coupling (cross-talk) between adjacent signal lines.
  • Corrupted iParameter data stored within the safety I/O module, leading to a plausibility check failure during initialization or operation.
  • Firmware bug or internal hardware defect in the safety I/O module affecting iParameter storage, signal processing, or test pulse generation.
  • External electromagnetic interference (EMI) from high-power switching devices inducing noise onto safety I/O signals, causing false readings or data corruption.
  • Incorrect configuration of safety-related parameters (iParameters) for the specific application, leading to a logical inconsistency check failure during runtime.

Pasos de reparación & Lista de verificación

Haga clic en los pasos para seguir su progreso.

  1. 1

    1. Perform a power cycle of the safety I/O module and observe if the fault clears; if not, proceed to inspect physical connections.

  2. 2

    2. Disconnect and re-terminate all field wiring associated with the safety I/O module, ensuring proper shielding termination and segregation from power cables.

  3. 3

    3. Connect to the safety PLC via engineering software (e.g., ABB Safety Designer) and re-download the safety program, including all iParameter settings, to the module.

  4. 4

    4. Use an oscilloscope to verify the integrity of safety input/output signals during operation to detect any induced noise or cross-talk between channels.

  5. 5

    5. If the issue persists after re-downloading and checking wiring, replace the safety I/O module with a new unit and re-download the safety configuration.
