E4-257

Wrong Measurement / False Temperature (Compensation Channel)

ABB · System

¿Qué significa E4-257 ?

The I/O bus module's compensation channel is providing incorrect measurements or a false temperature reading. This can lead to inaccurate process control, improper compensation for sensor errors, or system instability, especially in temperature-sensitive applications. Untrustworthy data poses operational risks.

Causas comunes

  • Broken thermocouple (TC) or RTD wire in the compensation channel, causing an open circuit and leading to maximum or minimum temperature readings.
  • Poor electrical contact or corrosion at the compensation channel terminals (e.g., terminals 1 & 2 for TC input), introducing high resistance.
  • Electromagnetic interference (EMI) induced noise on the compensation channel wiring (e.g., unshielded cable routed near power cables).
  • Faulty cold junction compensation (CJC) sensor within the I/O module itself, used for thermocouple readings.
  • Incorrect configuration of the compensation channel input type (e.g., configured for RTD when a TC is connected, or vice-versa, in parameter P20-05).

Pasos de reparación & Lista de verificación

Haga clic en los pasos para seguir su progreso.

  1. 1

    1. Measure the resistance or voltage across the compensation sensor's terminals (e.g., RTD pins, TC leads) directly at the sensor head.

  2. 2

    2. Verify continuity and insulation resistance of the wiring from the compensation sensor to the I/O module's input terminals (e.g., X1.1, X1.2).

  3. 3

    3. Ensure proper shielding and grounding of the compensation sensor wiring, confirming the shield is connected to the appropriate ground terminal (e.g., FG) at one end.

  4. 4

    4. Access the I/O module's configuration software and verify that the compensation channel input type (e.g., P20-05 'Input Type') is correctly set (e.g., J-Type TC, PT100).

  5. 5

    5. Check the ambient temperature around the I/O module using a calibrated thermometer to see if the internal CJC sensor reading is plausible.
