Motor overloaded

Danfoss · VLT 2800 Variable Speed Drive

¿Qué significa 10 ?

The electronic thermal protection indicates the motor is too hot due to being overloaded by more than 100% for too long. Parameter 128 allows the user to select whether the drive emits a warning or an alarm. This protects the motor from thermal damage.

Causas comunes

  • Mechanical overload on the driven equipment (e.g., worn gearbox, clogged pump, binding mechanism), requiring the motor to draw excessive current.
  • Motor is undersized for the application's continuous load or peak demands.
  • Inaccurate motor thermal model in the drive due to incorrect parameter settings (P1-20 to P1-25, P1-28 Motor thermal protection).
  • Restricted motor cooling (e.g., clogged cooling fins, high ambient temperature, blocked fan) preventing heat dissipation.
  • Continuous operation below the motor's rated frequency (e.g., below 30Hz) without proper motor derating, reducing cooling efficiency.

Pasos de reparación & Lista de verificación

Haga clic en los pasos para seguir su progreso.

  1. 1

    1. Measure the motor's actual operating current (A01-04) and compare it to the motor nameplate Full Load Amps (FLA) and the drive's rated output current.

  2. 2

    2. Inspect the driven mechanical equipment (e.g., bearings, pumps, fans) for any binding, obstruction, or increased resistance causing excessive load.

  3. 3

    3. Verify that all motor nameplate data (kW, V, A, Hz, RPM) is correctly entered into drive parameters P1-20 through P1-25.

  4. 4

    4. Check the motor's cooling fins for dust/debris and ensure the motor cooling fan operates freely and provides adequate airflow.

  5. 5

    5. Review parameter P1-28 (Motor thermal protection) to confirm it is set correctly for the motor (e.g., 'Motor PTC' if a thermistor is used, or appropriate I^2t setting).

  6. 6

    6. Consider increasing acceleration/deceleration times (P2-01, P2-02) if transient overloads are common during speed changes.
