Modbus Time Out

Schneider Electric · Altistart 22 Soft Starter

¿Qué significa SLF ?

The Modbus serial communication link experienced a timeout, meaning the soft starter did not receive an expected message or acknowledge within the configured timeframe. This indicates a disruption or issue with the communication network.

Causas comunes

  • Incorrect Modbus communication parameters (e.g., P7-01 (baud rate), P7-02 (data format)) set on either soft starter or master device.
  • Physical wiring fault in Modbus RTU cable (RS-485 A/B lines reversed, disconnected, or damaged shielding).
  • Modbus master device is not actively sending requests or has stopped responding (e.g., PLC program error or communication module fault).
  • Modbus slave address (P7-04) on the soft starter does not match the address being polled by the master.
  • Excessive electromagnetic interference (EMI) on the RS-485 bus, causing data corruption and message retransmission failures.

Pasos de reparación & Lista de verificación

Haga clic en los pasos para seguir su progreso.

  1. 1

    1. Verify Modbus communication parameters (baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits) on the soft starter (P7-01, P7-02) and the Modbus master device for exact match.

  2. 2

    2. Check RS-485 wiring continuity between the soft starter's A/B terminals and the Modbus master, ensuring correct polarity and proper shielding termination.

  3. 3

    3. Use a Modbus sniffer tool to monitor data traffic on the RS-485 bus and identify message integrity or timing issues.

  4. 4

    4. Confirm the soft starter's Modbus address (P7-04) matches the address being polled by the Modbus master, adjusting if necessary.

  5. 5

    5. Measure voltage potential on Modbus A/B lines with an oscilloscope to detect noise spikes or signal degradation.
