F-18

System malfunction

SEW Eurodrive · MCBSM

¿Qué significa F-18 ?

An internal system malfunction has occurred within the inverter electronics, potentially influenced by electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) issues. This fault causes an immediate switch-off and inhibits operation, signifying a critical internal hardware or software problem that requires expert attention.

Causas comunes

  • Watchdog timer reset triggered by an internal processor hang or unexpected program execution loop.
  • Corrupted system register or volatile memory (RAM) content, possibly due to a brief power fluctuation or external noise event.
  • Data communication error between internal microcontrollers or between the CPU and peripheral chips.
  • Power supply instability to the internal digital logic circuits on the main control board.
  • Software bug in the inverter's operating system firmware, triggered by a specific sequence of operations or specific parameter combination.

Pasos de reparación & Lista de verificación

Haga clic en los pasos para seguir su progreso.

  1. 1

Isolate the inverter from external control signals (e.g., remove I/O wiring) and attempt to power it up and reset, then reintroduce signals one by one.

  2. 2

Measure the internal DC-DC converter output voltages (if accessible and safe) on the control board to verify stable power for digital logic.

  3. 3

Reset the inverter to factory default parameters (e.g., P0-00 = 1) and re-enter only essential settings to rule out a parameter conflict.

  4. 4

Ensure proper cable shielding and grounding practices are followed for all control wiring connected to the inverter, especially for fieldbus communication.

  5. 5

Log any external events (e.g., motor starts, contactor switching, fieldbus commands) that coincide with the fault to identify potential triggers.
